The Race For The White House AKA Dartflix Edition #44

I just came back from voting for Barack Obama/Joe Biden and now it's time to talk about how the box office is doing. A couple of weekends ago the horror film "Saw V" was murdered by teenybopper juggernaut "High School Musical 3: Senior Year". While the further adventures of Jigsaw and his disciples/victims brought in a more than respectable $30 million over 3 days to finish second, the estrogen fueled "HSM 3" brought in a whopping $42 million the same weekend to take the box office crown. I personally find Corbin Bleu scarier than anything that ocurred onscreen in "Saw V" so you know where I stand in that respect.

"Pride And Glory" had an extremely poor showing by only bringing in $6.3 million over the same weekend and failing to find audience. It turns out that Halloween resulted in one of the worst movie opening Fridays in recent memory as fans steered clear of theaters but showed up on Saturday and Sunday. After being in wide release for two weeks it's still having trouble cracking $12 million in total box office receipts. That's really fuckin' scary right there.

The same weekend Clint Eastwood's new film "Changeling" opened in limited release and did quite well for itself by opening at just under $500,000 (opening at #21) in only 15 theaters nationwide for a huge per screen take. The next week it entered wide release and shot up to 4th place by making $9.3 million and pushing it's total take to over $10 million in 10 days.

Kevin Smith's newest offering may seem like a Jud Apatow flick at first glimpse but it isn't. "Zack And Miri Make A Porno" came in second after last weekend's final numbers came back as it also took a vicious reaming and a money shot right in the eye from Disney's immovable force "HSM 3". The best "Zach And Miri.." could muster up was just over $10 million dollars over the weekend. Ouch! Even though it was the best ever opening weekend for a View Askew picture (again..ouch!) "HSM" still won by about $5 million after having a dismal second weekend. Next week, "Role Model" and "Quantum Of Solace" (the current worldwide box office champ) face off. It's all about Bond, son!

This is the face of the 44th President Of The United States. We have at least 4 years of the Obama/Biden Administration ahead. Thank you to John McCain for his heartfelt concession speech and Rest In Eternal Peace to Jax of Binkis Recs.

Watched Hellboy 2 on Friday.

Pretty good movie and visually stunning. Stunning may be strong, but it looked good.

@ Chad:

What about my blog says "comedy" and why would I shout you out on this blog if you don't make films or Hip Hop? Fuck off.
