Quantum Of Twilight AKA Dartflix Edition #45

The box office has done fairly well the past couple of weeks thanks to a few blockbusters and a legitimate comedy that can put asses in the seats. The weekend of the 7th was owned by the animated children's film "Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa" which pulled just over $63 million at the box office and took the top spot by a huge margin considering that it's closest competition was the Seann William Scott/Paul Rudd comedy "Role Models" ($19 million). The next weekend was another matter altogether as the world's most popular flick was finally opening stateside.

Daniel Craig's James Bond for a new millenium crushed that same kiddie flick underfoot with ease as it took the top spot at last week's box office by raking in $67.5 million to "Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa" and it's $35 million dollar take. The Danny Boyle indie film "Slumdog Millionaire" entered the charts at #24 by making less than $500, 000 in 5 days of limited release. Daniel Craig's WWII film "Defiance" opens in mid January to avoid competition with Tom Cruise WWII film "Valkyrie". I'm pretty sure "The Road" will get pushed back as well seeing as how it still doesn't even have a trailer (?)

This weekend, teen angsty drama and romance filled vampire book adaptation "Twilight" is poised to do big numbers at the box office and compete with Bond for the top spot. If they do take it, they might wanna thank the folks at Showtime and the show "True Blood" for helping them out indirectly since that show's word of mouth popularity and the youth skewing marketing campaign has led to the "Twilight" soundtrack moving a surprising amount of units and anticipation for it is at a fever pitch amongst the 18-34 demographic across the board (especially females). We'll see what happens (A Tale Of Ten Trailers 12 will be up on the 20th, don't forget!). Now on to the recommendations:

Rent/Watch these movies at your own risk:

Heathers (Blu-Ray)-Same overrated flick, but now it's in Blu-Ray. I thought dark comedies were still supposed to..I dunno, be funny?

17-Ricky Martin-That's how many women he slept with before he realized that he still prefers guys (I'm sorry, I just really hate this guy!)

The Island (Blu-Ray)-Even fine ass Scarlett Johannson couldn't save this diarrhea shitstorm disguised as a sci-fi/action film.

Meet Dave-Best Defense, A Vampire In Brooklyn, The Adventures Of Pluto Nash, _______ (I don't count the kiddie/Disney flicks).

Coming (relatively) Soon To A Theater (or computer) Near You:

One.
