The Pang Brothers remake of their modern classic "Bangkok Dangerous" met with disastrous results this month as it opened at #1 last week but set a record for the lowest ever weekend take for a top film only bringing in $7.8 million dollars when there was no other major studio film with a big star in it premiering that week. It only beat out the the #2 film (Tropic Thunder) by about half a million. The next week it dropped all the way down to 8th and only made $12.7 million after 10 days in theaters.
The Coen Brothers new film "Burn After Reading" opened at #1 this last weekend at $19. 1 million as the box office came back after concerns about the weather had passed in some regions of the US and the people went back to the theater in droves. The comedic drama by the makers of last year's hit "No Country For Old Men" might have hit another home run with an ensemble cast that stars Frances McDormand, George Clooney, Brad Pitt, John Malkovich and Tilda Swinton.
John Avnet's "Righteous Kill" starring Robert DeNiro and Al Pacino opened at a respectable third this past weekend and brought in $16.3 million. The #2 film was Tyler Perry's "The Family That Preys" which brought in $17.5 million. This weekend's take is expected to take a dip as "Blindness" and "Lakeview Terrace" both open but it should be back on the 26th as Spike Lee's World War II drama "Miracle At St. Anna" and the blockbuster "Eagle Eye" both hit theaters along with "Choke". I'll detail what happened in Dartflix Edition #42 next month and look out for "A Tale Of Ten Trailers 10" on September 20th.

Rent/Watch these movies at your own risk:
Made Of Honor- Chick flick!
Speed Racer-I once called "Speed Racer" a craptacular seizure inducing Technicolor CGI fest with no soul. I stand by that previous statement.
The Love Guru-Mike Myers thought that his friendship with Deepak Chopra would give him a pass to make "The Love Guru". Hindus were offended and wanted an apology. Anyone who actually paid money to see it deserve one as well.
Sex And The City-The Movie-Chick flick!
Leatherheads-I'm a George Clooney fan and all but this just looked terrible from the second I saw the trailer.
My Best Friend's Girl-Dane Cook. Jason Biggs. Kate Hudson. No thank you.
Coming (relatively) Soon To A Theater (or computer) Near You:
