Last night concluded the Democratic National Convention where Barack Obama became the official Democratic nominee to run for president in November and he chose Senator Joe Biden as his running mate for Vice President. At first I was apprehensive because I don't know much about Joe Biden, but after hearing his speech two nights ago all of my worries were soon elleviated.
Last night, in front of almost 100,000 collected Democrats in Denver, CO and the world thanks to several television news networks covering the event Barack Obama delivered an impassioned speech on the 45th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's iconic "I Have A Dream" speech. It was viewed as a home run by the overwhelming majority of Democrats (except for the diehard Hilary supporters who will vote for John McCain (?)) as well as a surprising amount of Republicans and Independents.
The Obama/Biden ticket will go against the newly formed ticket of McCain/Palin now that John McCain has chosen Sarah Palin, a governor from a small town (population: 6, 500) in Alaska with little experience in big time politics as his presidential running mate. She shares his views on several issues but is a huge liability in most others.
Either way, the Obama/Biden ticket has the official endorsement of Poisonous Paragraphs for the 2008 presidential race and I will continue to write about politics or whatever the hell I feel like for the duration of this blog's run. If you have a problem with the fact that I'm not willing to live with another 4 years of the same bullshit that I've endured for the past 8 already then read another blog.
This week I'll be reviewing three new albums that leaked in the following order: Young Jeezy "The Recession", Brooklyn Academy "Bored Of Education" and Madlib "Beat Konducta Vol. 5 Dil Cosby Suite". For those of you new to the party, I don’t rate albums on a scale or assign them a numerical value out of 5 or 10, instead I merely answer the all important question of “Is it worth buying or not?”. Here's how my "Cop It Or Not" ratings system breaks down below:
Oh No! This CD is a drink coaster/table balancer/doorstop/gerbil/hamster room divider/frisbee/discus/makeshift shield/last ditch choice for a visor/alternate shuriken choice. Sell this shit to whoever is dumb enough to buy it from you.
Maeby (Maybe)! Depending on your own set of personal preferences you might like this joint. Give it a listen first to see if it's in your lane or not.
Mos Def! Cop the album when it drops...'Nuff said.
That's not change! It's more of the same! © Joe Biden
Best Joints: The Recession, Welcome Back, By The Way, Crazy World, What They Want, Amazin', Hustlaz Ambition, Who Dat, Don't You Know, Circulate, Word Play, Vacation, Everything, Takin' It There, Don't Do It, Put On, Get Allot and My President
Hot Garbage: N/A
Dart's Take: I'm not a Young Jeezy fan by any stretch of the imagination but I think this is his best album to date. This is the first album that he's recorded that I was actually able to sit through from beginning to end without having to force myself or stop a track. While none of the tracks were straight up wack, this still isn't my pyrex pot of cooked crack. I guess the political leanings made it possible for me to stomach this album.
With all that said the best I can do is give it a maybe but if you're a fan of Young Jeezy or music of the like you should be thoroughly impressed by this album. Young Jeezy isn't gonna get much better than a maybe from me unless he somehow stepped his pen game and spit game up dramatically. You know what it is. *Plays a few Elzhi tracks before continuing with review blog*
Best Joints: One, Raise Ya Hands, We Don't Play, This Is Brooklyn, That's Brooklyn, The Growler, Hide, Tear It Down, Blame It On The Alcohol (?), Splash, Black Out, Suicide, Close Your Eyes, Back In Effect, What's The Buzz and Nothing You Can Do.
Hot Garbage: N/A
Dart's Take: This album reminded me of the old 12"s and the Will Tell compilations I used to cop from Sandbox Automatic back in the early 00's. Block McCloud, Pumpkinhead, Ocean The Bad Seed and Jean Grae all spitting fire over tracks with guest appearances from Non Phixion, The Arsonists and Thirstin Howl The 3rd. They still have the same hunger, pen game and intensity they had back then, which is commendable.
Brooklyn Academy came with it on this project and exceeded my expectations. By the way, I TOLD y'all Jean Grae didn't quit! (She's "retired" at least 5 times previously by my count..ask Pumpkinhead, Mr. Len, or Meat Pie for proof!). This album is lyrically and sonically on point but it's not great so I'll give it a recommended maybe. Check for it.
Best Joints: For My Mans (Prelude), The Mystery (Dilla's Still Here), Beat Provider (Through The Years), J's Day Theme #3 (Support), In Jah Hands (Dilla's Lament), Get Dollaz (24-7), The String (Heavy Jones), Two For Pay Jay (No Dough, No Show), No More Time? (The Change), Do You Know? (Transition), Dirty Hop (The Shuffle), Floating Soul (Peace), Infinity Sound (Never Ending), Sacrifice (Beat-A-Holic Thoughts), Rebirth Cycle (Super Soul), Rolled Peach Optimos (Call Day), The Main Inspiration (Coltrane of Beats), The Get Over (Move), Shades of Pete (Super), King Chop (Top Line) and Anthenagin' (?)
Hot Garbage: N/A (It sucked that this LP came to an end)
Dart's Take: It's Madlib, dammit! When y'all known Otis Jackson Jr. to make some wack shit? Even though I was kinda sore that Madvilliany 2 was just remixes and refixes of the original Madvillian it was still crazy like a weekend with DMX. This joint is off the wall like MJ in 1979, cop this on iTunes as soon as bloody possible beatheads. This is the lone mos def recipient of the week.

You write some good stuff on hip hop, but you should probably steer clear of writing about politics, because you're astoundingly ignorant.
How could you not know much about Joe Biden? They guy has been a senator for 35 years. Thirty-five fucking years. He was first elected in 1973, he's run for president before, and he's been one of the Democrat's most public faces over at least the last 20 years.
As for Palin, she's the governor of the entire state, not a small town. She actually has more experience than Obama, when you consider Obama's total record of votes in absentia and the fact that he's been campaigning, not legislating, over the past two years.
The thing is, it disturbs me to see how many people plan to vote for Obama because they like his image, but have absolutely no clue about his views or his policies. The man wants to take this country in the direction of socialism, and has shown a jaw-dropping lack of understanding about foreign relations. If he gets in, he'll be a disaster.
I know that's not the cool thing to say, and it doesn't jibe well with all the fangirls (male and female) making tribute videos on Youtube and MySpace, but it's true.
@ plan:
It's pretty easy to not know much about Joe Biden...ask around. As for as Palin goes, I know even less about her except that she's against abortion, a member of the NRA and she lives in a small town in Alaska with her husband and 5 kids. Plus she's a Republican.
I UNDERSTAND Barack Obama's views and his policies. I also OVERSTAND that he's willing to work with others and adjust his "policies" if it's beneficial to his constituency because the people come first. It won't be a disaster (unlike the previous 8 years have been).
Thanks for reading my blog but I'll write about whatever I want to whenever I fuckin' feel like it. You got me? Have a nice day.

Plan..
90%..That's the only number you should be thinking of right now
To be honest, I'm not really excited about either candidate.
I want something different, which I feel McCain would not bring, as he seems more of the same (not good at all.)
However, despite the fact that Obama is a fantastic orator, he never really seems to say anything. I'm just as qualified to go up there and say my goals and ideals for a country (ie. free healthcare, etc) and say "this is what i'm going to do" - without speaking about HOW he is going to do it.
Don't get me wrong, ideals are nice, but plans are better.
Sidenote: I was watching the news around noon on my lunch break, and my mom calls (and she's not one to even watch politics at all) and says:
"I saw McCain's choice, and I think he only picked her because she's a young female. Her young-ness will counteract his being old as shit."
Anyway though, this is the first election I can vote in (18 yrs. old), and I might not even vote. If I had to choose, it'd still be Obama, but I'm not overly excited about it.
Just my two (or three) cents, keep up the good work Dart.
I don't care what any of you fools say. Their's no way in HELL Obama/Biden can be worse the clown who's running things now...8 years ago gas prices were a dollar something, which was still high...but, I'm damn near paying 5 bucks for a damn gallon of gas, how is this helping anybody?!?
i agree with the first guy. if you don't know joe biden, you pretty much know nothing about the people that have been governing for decades. nothing wrong with that, except that you should probably educate yourself on the basics before sounding off about politics.
@ cole --- as much as they ask the candidates about the price of gas, there isn't really shit the president can do about it. look at bush's recent trip to saudi arabia, begging on his hands and needs for some oil relief. they basically waved him away.
@ anonymous:
I didn't write a huge detailed treatise on politics here. I merely rehashed what I saw of the DNC from the previous week. Why so many people are surprised that I didn't know much about Joe Biden is beyond me. Should I have lied? SMH.

A little off topic, Guys... I have a question. Two days ago I found this site:
Rivalspot.com - Play Ps3 tournaments for cash
They say you can play online sports game tournaments on any console for cash... had anyone tried that before? Looks like a cool idea...
Are there any other sites where you can play sports games for real moneys? I Googled and found only Bringit.com and Worldgaming.com but it looks these guys don't specialize in sport gamez. Any suggestions?
