It’s Deja Vu All Over Again AKA Can I Get A Tommy Point?

They say that history repeats itself. They also say that those who don’t know their history are doomed to repeat it...we Celtics basketball fans will never forget what happened at the Draft Lottery and subsequent NBA Draft back in 1997. This could’ve happened:

Instead what we got was this:

It’s been a crazy season, people. Last summer Boston basketball fans were all convinced that this blockbuster deal was gonna happen:

Instead all that happened was everyone went down with injuries, even Tommy Heinsohn missed some time! You would’ve thought that that the entire team was on the cover of Madden 2007 or some shit. Fast forward to the end of the season and they have the second worst record in the league. This assures them of a 20% chance at the #1 pick in the 2007 NBA Draft. The Memphis Grizzlies have a 25% chance at acquiring the #1 pick, however they don’t have the ghosts of the greatest coach and deal maker in NBA history, the most underrated point guard of the past 25 years, captain Reggie Lewis and Len Bias who never had the opportunity to rock number #30 and catch passes from Bird and DJ or shoot over screens and picks set by McHale and Chief. Not to mention...we’re fuckin’ due for some good luck about now.

Okay, let’s say the Celtics DON’T get the first pick (God forbid) in the Draft Lottery tonight, what do they do? Why wouldn’t the Celtics want Kevin Durant? Well let’s see, an athletic small forward/deadeye shooter? Lord knows we don’t have any of those! (sarcasm) The Celtics NEED a defensive presence in the middle, another shotblocker and another rebounder that won't demand the ball on offense. If the Celtics get Greg Oden (below) and have a two center rotation of Greg Oden and Kendrick Perkins, who the hell would want to drive on the C’s then? These two cats would lock the paint down and board like beasts (if any of you aren’t familiar of what a healthy Perk can do just trust me when I tell you). The other players in the Top 5 are strictly trade bait (Kevin Durant, Yi Jianlian (below), Al Horford and Corey Brewer) because the Celtics don’t have a need at any other position other than center. I expect that on draft night a few cats are gonna leave town via a deal anyways so don’t get upset if DWest, Tony Allen or Wally World won’t be in green next season.

For the C’s this year it’s literally #1 or bust. I hope that Tommy Heisohn can deliver this year and give us Bostonian basketball fans something to cheer about this year rather than sitting around talking what could’ve been....again. Hopefully every will be celebrating down the street at Clery’s around 8:45 PM. If the miracle does happen I will gloat about it tomorrow.
