What's New In Dart's iPod #108 AKA I Am Not For Sale

This week I'll be reviewing seven new projects that recently hit the 'net/bloggerverse and/or will be landing on store shelves soon in the following order: Custom Fit "Polyshufflez Remixes", Elzhi "The Leftovers Unmixed Tape", Kidz In The Hall "LRG Presents Kidz In The Hall - The Professional Leisure Tour", Obie Trice & MoSS "Special Reserve", Robin Thicke "Sex Therapy: The Session (The Experience)", Slum Village "Villa Manifesto EP" and Statik Selektah "The Pre-Game EP". For those of you new to this blog, I don’t rate albums on a scale or assign them a numerical value out of 5 or 10, instead I merely answer the all important question of “Is it worth buying or not?”. Here's how my recently revised "Cop It Or Not" ratings system breaks down below:

Opinions be damned. This particular project has no redeeming qualities whatsoever and should come with a Surgeon General's warning and/or a biohazard sticker. It should only be handled by hazmat teams or bomb/demolition squads. To quote Common & Canibus, this album is your worst nightmare squared.

Oh No! This CD is a drink coaster/table balancer/doorstop/gerbil/hamster room divider/frisbee/discus/makeshift shield/last ditch choice for a visor/alternate shuriken choice. Sell this shit to whoever is dumb enough to buy it from you.

Maeby (Maybe)! Depending on your own set of personal preferences you might like this joint. Give it a listen first to see if it's in your lane or not.

Dart's Take: Damn good remix project from the good people @ Tokyo Dawn Records. If you're a hardcore beat head then you should definitely check for it. It drops officially December 17th. Also check for the Portformat "The Repeat Factor" that dropped on the 3rd. Recommended maybe.

Dart's Take: Some people were bellyaching because Kidz In The Hall decide to experiment with new sounds and make music that may depart from what you'd consider to be "underground". Shuddup. "Flickin'", "Going For It", "All Night Long", "Understanding" and "Everyday" added much needed variety to the project.

Don't be afraid of variety, people. If y'all heard the shit I listen to regularly your heads would explode on some "Scanners" shit if you think anything on this jawn was a huge stretch. I played this free album several times over the past week or so. I give it a recommended maybe & I can't wait to hear "The Land Of Make Believe" or even more Double 0 verses (?!) ("Life I Know"). Dart's Take: Pretty excellent. A few too many songs based on Rap hooks & lyrics. The sequence could been mixed better towards the end but I can actually rock this jawn almost the entire way through without the urge to hurt my fellow humans. That Nicki Minaj song was awful, though. The Estelle jawn was annoying to say the least. Way to go, Robin Thicke! I hereby dub thee "The New Jon B.". Highly recommended maybe.

Dart's Take: Statik Selektah sent me an advance of this project the day my laptop decided to begin dying on me. He sent me a super advance, mind you. WAV files. Untagged. He did send me a tracklist though. I made mp3 versions on my G5 Tower w/ iTunes, retagged it & added the cover art. I was the ONLY muthafucka in Boston banging these songs on his iPod Touch for about 3 weeks.

I'm in awe at the consistency of Statik & his work ethic. This entire project is bananas & he has upcoming projects with Saigon, Termanology (as 1982), Bahamadia & his new LP "100 Proof (The Hangover)". Mos def. This is why I don't do my lists early. Dayum!
