I had high hopes for this Neill Blomkamp sci fi film "District 9". The early buzz and trailers alone already had me sold but after seeing the second trailer the studio released to promote the film, interest and anticipation for this release completely shot through the roof. Why? Because at first I thought this film was one thing but it turned out to be something completely different. It was a story about an alien race trapped in an adverse situation where they were stuck in survival mode. They were thrown into the same situation as the people that already lived there. It easily toppled "G.I. Joe: Rise Of Cobra" from the top of the box office rankings with $37.3 million made after it's opening weekend in theaters.
"District 9" has incited some different reactions from moviegoers than it has from critics who universally enjoyed it. The film jumps from a documentary set in an alternate reality in Apartheid era Johannesburg, South Africa and switches into a drama/action film abruptly halfway through. Some viewers completely missed the message of the film or that fact that all the people/aliens involved were just trying to survive so they each exploited each other in different ways. There were holes in the plot/story but it's clear that there will be a sequel titled "District 10" officially greenlit in early September as it's already grossed more than $80 million worldwide and it only cost $30 million to make.
The coming weeks see offerings like Quentin Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds" and Rob Zombie's "Halloween II". "Inglorious Basterds" is estimated to take the top spot for this weekend's box office by raking in $37.6 million dollars while "District 9" brought in another $19 million at 2nd place. "G.I. Joe only brought in $12.5 million and is losing more and more steam as the weeks go on. The Summer blockbuster season maybe coming to a close but September will open big. Enough talk, let's get to the recommendations!

I don't know why but I LOVE the Brothers poster.
My attention was caught with the one line about Caprica.
AHHHH!
I'm on the beginning of Season 2 of BSG and we watch it EVERY DAY. I'm totally dorking out. I love Starbuck more and more each episode. I want her to have my babies.
A lot of good designs were able to be seen.
