It's About That Time AKA Dartflix Edition #32

This is the time of the year in the cinema world that all of those films with distribution deals that were at the previous film festivals are either released into wider release in theaters or the films that were getting most of the nominations or accolades during awards season and about to come out on DVD finally.

This is also the time of year where a few of my favorite films and series of the year will finally come out on DVD. Just this month the third season of Battlestar Galactica (whatever, that show is crack), John From Cincinatti (weird, but I liked it), a film that is two years late getting a North American release in Guy Ritchie’s “Revolver” and the most frustrating film experience (to some) of 2007 (I saw it four times and read the graphic novel), Southland Tales.

The films I’m looking most forward to that are being released in March are “Funny Games”, “Snow Angels”, “Paranoid Park”, “Stop-Loss” and “Doomsday”. I added all of the major films to this list so you can get an early jump before they come out on DVD if you haven’t already. There is also something very different about this Dartflix edition, that being the absence of trailers. I can explain that pretty easily...I’ve already posted them all. I’ve posted up trailers for movies that haven’t even been officially announced yet for God’s sake!

I find it hilarious that I post so often that I’ve exhausted all of the available trailers (read: interesting ones) on the internet. The next ten trailers I’m going to post up aren’t yet available and the films don’t drop until Summer ‘08 or Fall ‘08. Do me a favor and go back throught the previous 4 Dartflix entries and review my series Dart Adams presents A Tale Of Ten Trailers (I made 3 of them) to see some. On another note, can y’all believe this bullshit regarding the G.I. Joe movie casting and Leonardo DiCaprio remaking Akira but using the graphic novel storyline in live action? That’s gonna suck.

In other news, for those of you that actually read the graphic novel and thought that you’d see the same shit that’s in that book in the upcoming movie "Wanted", then you’re all fuckin’ high. There’s no way in hell they would allow that film to be created and released in theaters, think about it. They almost didn’t release “Fight Club”! People would’ve protested the content of that film immediately.

The other thing was that is was clearly inspired by “Watchmen” (which wrapped and post production is currently underway) and it was way too inside and appealed to die hard comic book/graphic novel fans. I’m looking forward to seeing the reinterpretation and exactly how much of the source material got sanitized (no Shithead) or completely glossed over/omitted.

I never thought that I’d run out of new trailers after making these bimonthly instead of weekly like the early days of this blog. Okay, now on to the recommendations and picks for the first half of the month:

Dart’s Picks:

Snow Angels-A character driven indie film about intertwining lives surrounding a high school with a stellar ensemble cast? Sign me up.

Doomsday-A new film taking on the old school theme of a paramilitary team trying to save the world after a virus reduces it to a post apocalyptic wastleland? Sign me up! I’d like to see how those old 80’s movies could be improved by new filming techniques/innovations and advanced technology.

Funny Games-It’s a remake of the original film in America by the same writer/director for the North American audience. The original is twisted and fucked up...sign me up!

Paranoid Park-Indie flick about skate kids in the Pacific Northwest surrounding a tragic event that happened during one of their night sessions.

WTF? Awards?Watch This Bullshit At Your Own Risk:

No Reservations-Romantic comedies suck 80% of the time...this one sucked as well.

Stargate: The Ark-Hell no!

10, 000 B.C.- This movie is bullshit for a bunch of reasons that I illustrated in my first A Tale Of Ten Trailers post (the very last trailer featured). Read it.

College Road Trip: Remember when I told you that Marty Lawrence had another bullshit flick coming out soon...this is it.

Meet The Browns: Tyler Perry wrote and directed it? Regardless of who’s in it *The feast is ruined!*

Properties That Hollywood Studios Are Going To Butcher In The Near Future:

Speed Racer

Masters Of The Universe

Thundercats

G.I. Joe

Voltron

Robotech

Dragon Ball Z

Akira

Paranoid Park is probably the best movie which came out last year (oct in France!). Though it is a minor GVS, it reveals both a summary of his three last films and the ground for new original movements and experimentations.
