This is also the time of year where a few of my favorite films and series of the year will finally come out on DVD. Just this month the third season of Battlestar Galactica (whatever, that show is crack), John From Cincinatti (weird, but I liked it), a film that is two years late getting a North American release in Guy Ritchie’s “Revolver” and the most frustrating film experience (to some) of 2007 (I saw it four times and read the graphic novel), Southland Tales.

I never thought that I’d run out of new trailers after making these bimonthly instead of weekly like the early days of this blog. Okay, now on to the recommendations and picks for the first half of the month:

Dart’s Picks:
Snow Angels-A character driven indie film about intertwining lives surrounding a high school with a stellar ensemble cast? Sign me up.
Doomsday-A new film taking on the old school theme of a paramilitary team trying to save the world after a virus reduces it to a post apocalyptic wastleland? Sign me up! I’d like to see how those old 80’s movies could be improved by new filming techniques/innovations and advanced technology.
Funny Games-It’s a remake of the original film in America by the same writer/director for the North American audience. The original is twisted and fucked up...sign me up!
Paranoid Park-Indie flick about skate kids in the Pacific Northwest surrounding a tragic event that happened during one of their night sessions.
WTF? Awards?Watch This Bullshit At Your Own Risk:
No Reservations-Romantic comedies suck 80% of the time...this one sucked as well.
Stargate: The Ark-Hell no!
10, 000 B.C.- This movie is bullshit for a bunch of reasons that I illustrated in my first A Tale Of Ten Trailers post (the very last trailer featured). Read it.
College Road Trip: Remember when I told you that Marty Lawrence had another bullshit flick coming out soon...this is it.
Meet The Browns: Tyler Perry wrote and directed it? Regardless of who’s in it *The feast is ruined!*
Properties That Hollywood Studios Are Going To Butcher In The Near Future:
Speed Racer

Masters Of The Universe

Thundercats

G.I. Joe

Voltron

Robotech

Dragon Ball Z

Akira

One.

Paranoid Park is probably the best movie which came out last year (oct in France!). Though it is a minor GVS, it reveals both a summary of his three last films and the ground for new original movements and experimentations.
