The highly anticipated comedy "The Hangover" managed to deliver at the box office during June's 1st box office weekend by raking in slighty under $45 million in 3 days. The latest numbers estimate that it's grossed over $110 million since it opened June 5th. It even outearned Disney/Pixar's new CGI family film "Up" which is quite an accomplishment (barely, but still..). This film generated a groundswell of interest through a great TV trailer. A better second Redband trailer online and word of mouth.
It's been lauded by fans and critics alike and many claim it's the funniest comedy in years. Maybe Zack Galifinakis will finally get a chance to be the headliner now? I've been a fan of his since his early stand up days so that would be good to see. Since "The Hangover" had a total budget that topped out at between $30-$35 million this is a huge hit already. Wait until it's run in theaters is over and the DVD's finally hit store shelves and go on sale around November. Ka Ching!
The remake of the iconic film "The Takling Of Pelham 123" had a disappointing opening this past weekend and came in 3rd at the box office managing only $23.3 million as a new action feature starring world renowned superstars Denzel Washington and John Travolta. It was beaten by not only "The Hangover" but also by "Up" which spent it's 2nd straight weekend behind "The Hangover" as well. Since the budget for "The Taking Of Pelham 123" is approximately the same as "The Hangover"'s current box office take ($110 million USD) it's safe to say that this film is in a bit of trouble right now.
Next weekend, the Jack Black & Michael Cera comedy "Year One" opens *yawn* and and the week after that "Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen" will completely level the box office and officially usher in the beginning of the Summer Blockbuster Season of '09. Even with film pirating at an all time high box office records were set in the previous two years in a row. Things are down now but only beacuse Hollywood is OD'ing on remakes and adaptations instead of making original films. You can't swing for the fences on every pitch, fellas! Enough bullshit, on to my recommendations for the rest of June!

Rent/Watch these movies at your own risk:
Madea Goes To Jail: Start a group with T.I. & Max B
Tyler Perry's House Of Pain, Vol. 4: TBS, This Bullshit Sucks!
Confessions Of A Shopaholic: I have a confession, I've never seen this piece of shit movie. Never will, either!
Pink Panther 2: Are Charles Hamilton & Cam'ron in this? Since I hate 'em both I'll pretend it's true and avoid this flick as well.
Inkheart: No. No. No.
Year One: Dear Jack Black & Michael Cera...try playing different characters just once. Expand your horizons.
Backwoods: Someone's gonna rent this thinking it's a stoner movie. Watch!
Street Fighter: The Legend Of Chun Li: This was even worse than I thought it would be. A tremendous feat in itself.
Jonas Brothers: The Concert Experience: I can't wait for their VH1 "Behind The Music" special. It's gonna be great.
This Is Jim Jones: This is Dart Adams not giving a fuck *Walks away*
Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen: It's like watching Optimus Prime die all over again.
Coming (relatively) Soon To A Theater (or computer) Near You:

Is it just me...or does it seem like you're actually suggesting people watch Hangover??
I'm not sure how I feel about this.
@Dioracat:
Nope, just reporting the facts, ma'am. I STILL haven't seen it yet.
One.
Oh thank you, sweet baby Buddha! I was like, who the fuck are you and what in God's name have you done with Dart Adams?
But seriously, I wonder if I really am a pretentious fuck. All the success of Hangover means the masses love it, which to me means even MORE reason to not watch it. Is that bad?
