East Coast Underground Compilations (Re-Up From January)

After digging in my own crates and upping the Beats & Lyrics series, I decided to upload the other underground East Coast two part compilation series put out by Nervous/Wreck Records AKA the label that raped Black Moon. The first disc is mixed by underground staple DJ Eclipse and the second by legendary producer DJ Spinna (whose CD’s and vinyl occupy a good portion of my crates, both milk and mail).

The first Independents Day has an underground lineup that need their own “Where Are They Now”, Shawn J. Period, Wizdom Life, Niight Breed, Mike Zoot, L Fudge, Duodie, Capital A, Kid Thun, The Raidermen, Lace Da Booms, Apani. B, etc. The rest of the CD is held down by underground heroes Polyrhythm Addicts, Shabaam Sahdeeq, Breez Evahflowin’, Jigmastas, and Natural Elements. The DJ Spinna mixed Independents Day sequel features a diverse lineup with Godfather Don, Screwball, K-Otix, Mastaminds, Danja Mowf, Frankenstein, Mathematik (both from Canada), Khaliyl (Bush Babees), Unspoken Heard, Network Reps f/DJ Spinna & Tru Persona, Pumpkinhead, and Lone Catalysts.

The third upload, New York State Of Rhyme, is pretty damn rare as it was a UK import. It was co-ordinated by Matt Fingaz (Fingatip) of Guesswhyld Productions (who incidentally appears from time to time as an artist on the two earlier CD’s) and is a successful manager of producers now (that subscription to Scratch Magazine pays for itself!).

This CD from 1998 features one of the first solo Consequence joints (ATCQ/G.O.O.D. Music) as well as one of the earliest Just Blaze productions (“F-Ava”- F.T. of Street Smarts f/Ava) on wax. The lineup on this compilation consists of El Da Sensei (Artifacts), Talib Kweli, A.L. (House Of Reps), Punch & Words, F.T. f/Ava, Mike Zoot, P. Dap f/D.V. Alias Khrist, Tefelar & Cordell, Network Reps, Craig G & Will Pack, Wizdom Life, Shabaam Sahdeeq, Mr. Eon (High & Mighty, Smut Peddlers), Reservoir Doggs, Joe Sex & High & Mighty. Tommy Tee handles production on 2 of the twelve joints and is aided by EZ Elpee, Shawn J. Period, Just Blaze, Reef (Rob Tewlow), Dash, P. Original, and Shaself.
